Picture
The Norman Children's Chorus is a community children's choir for students in grades 3 through 10 who love to sing. If your child has enjoyed choir camp or choir at school or church, that experience may be further enriched by singing in NCC. Students in NCC represent over 20 different schools including public, private and home schools.

The Con Brio Choir is directed by Sandy Knudson and is open by placement hearing. Lynn Herbel conducts the Da Capo Choir. Jacob Gonzales conducts the Cantare Choir.

With NCC I can express myself through music. NCC is also a place where I can have fun with my friends. I have made friendships that will last a lifetime through music. NCC gives me confidence, self-esteem, makes me smile and warms my heart.

I have learned how to read music better. I have learned to go up and down the do, re, mi scale properly. I have properly identified my singing range …..and what helps me sound better. NCC helped me to improve my leadership skills. Thank you very much for the opportunity to express my love for NCC. I am very excited to continue learning and participate in this coming year.

My favorite experiences with NCC have been singing the National Anthem at OU basketball games and singing with Norman North students. It’s really cool to sing with older kids and hear them, too. It’s neat to hear how my voice might change as I sing. Thanks to NCC for giving me these experiences. - Savannah Maddock

"Being in NCC means so much to me because I love to sing and at NCC I feel at home… In NCC, I have learned to be confident, sing your heart out, that every voice counts and most of all, you don’t have to start 'perfect'”. - Amelia Ahmadi

"All of the people in Norman Children's Chorus are like crayons in a crayon box. If we all are the same then we can't make a colorful picture . . . Being part of NCC means that I get to sing for big crowds of people and practice with some of the best singers I know. (perfect attendance the entire time!!)" Elizabeth Pfeil

A skill that I have been taught in NCC is solfege and solfege scales. Knowing solfege has helped me a lot at school in my choir class and even in honor band.

In NCC, I discovered that my love is for music. I have learned to sing confidently, to sing tall, and to sing my heart out.

To be honest, I was very nervous for the audition to join NCC and almost chose not to go. I am so glad that I changed my mind because I enjoy singing. I get to see some of my friends, make new friends, and be a part of something that I genuinely enjoy. - Zavion Harwell

"In NCC I have learned how to sing and sign with solfege. I have learned to use and control my voice and use taller vowels. I have learned how to articulate, and to express emotion and feeling while singing. I have also learned how to use air and space to make singing more enjoyable for the singers as well as the audience. I feel like a better singer than I was before joining." - Christy McBride

"I have been in Norman Children's Chorus for three years and I hope to do it for six. NCC means a lot to me. I've always liked music but NCC showed me how to love it and appreciate it. I am a lot more willing to sing in front of people; I might never have gotten a solo part in school without NCC. I am proud to be in the Norman Children's Chorus." Lelia Glover

"By being part of Norman Children’s Chorus, I have learned what teamwork truly means, and how to use my voice to make others happy. I have learned that it is not the individual voice, but the harmony of many voices that can truly spread joy to others."

"Being part of Norman Children’s Chorus means being part of something life changing. Kids come together to use their gifts to help, entertain, and change the community. It is much more than just a choir. It is a family, a team, and a greater experience than any other organization."
       -- Hailey Carpente

Being a part of Norman Children’s Chorus to me means passion. I look to my right, kids are smiling. I look to my left, smiles from ear to ear. Kids gather from all over Norman to sing in unison. It’s amazing how powerful the whole choir sounds together. What’s even more wonderful is how hard kids try and the passion in their faces when they are singing with all they’ve got. I work hard and love it when I start off my week with a loving, beautiful choir family. - Marycruz Mendoza

During my time in NCC, I have learned about singing, musicianship, and leadership. I have learned a lot of things about music in general and how it works. I have also been taught a lot about musical notation and symbols. I have learned what terms like staccato and crescendo mean. Most importantly, I have learned how to be a good singer and hopefully, I will keep this with me for the rest of my life. - Owen Gerber

"Being a part of NCC is really important to me because NCC is like a family; we look after each other. We get to travel to places and as we are traveling, we get to become better friends and get to know one another. … I contribute to the choir because every singer counts and that is all that matters". - Madison Griffin

"I feel like I have grown so much in the past two years. I am excited to come to practice on Mondays! ……These are the reasons that I love NCC. I am a meaningful team player. I love to sing. NCC has given me opportunities that I would not otherwise have. I appreciate and love being with Norman Children’s Chorus." -Lucy Kerschen

"I have contributed to the success of NCC by listening to the teacher and memorizing the songs quickly. On every performance and rehearsal day, I was punctual, professional and prepared. I look forward to NCC rehearsals every day and I'm already ready to learn new songs. In the next year, I will be one year older and I will do even better!" Melody Chen

"Being a part of Norman Children's Chorus means a lot of things to me. It means to me that I am a part of a huge friendly choir, and that I am a part of making people's day by singing them kind and meaningful songs. Being a part of that, to me, is a huge opportunity to be a great singer, and to make others feel good who might have troubles in their lives." Kaidyn Nickerson

"One of my favorite things about NCC is that it has a wide range of musical pieces. Plus, these kids are actually people who love to sing. To be honest, NCC is a place where I can let go of feelings through my voice. NCC is a big deal in my life."                         -- Isaiah Sells
