How do I join? Norman Children’s Chorus placement hearings begin in March and continue through May. We have a few in August as well. Our placement hearing allows us to place your child in either the Da Capo, Con Brio, or Contare Choir. We also have the opportunity to take notes on skill development and make small goals for our work with your child during the upcoming season.
Students do not need to prepare a piece in advance. However, it is helpful if your child knows the round: Are you sleeping, Brother John? We ask students to echo patterns, sing a round with us, echo some solfege patterns and answer a few questions. The placement hearing takes approximately 10 minutes.
What is the time commitment? NCC rehearses on Monday evenings from 6:00 to 7:15 PM via Zoom until it is safe to rehearse in person. Rehearsals begin the Monday after Labor Day and continue through mid April. We perform several times each semester. For more info, go to our current season.
How much does it cost? Children’s Chorus tuition is $325 per year plus the purchase of a uniform. Financial Aid is available based on need. No child is denied participation because of an inability to pay. Fundraising opportunities are provided to help raise funds for tuition or travel.
